Each grant is made possible by a community of thousands of donors giving what they can to support movements for justice.

Racial & Economic Justice Fund

The Racial & Economic Justice Fund is a core fund at Bread & Roses that moved $240,000 to groups engaged in direct-action community organizing in the Philadelphia region to promote racial and economic justice.

Abolitionist Law Center is a law firm dedicated to ending race and class-based discrimination in the criminal justice system. 

ACT UP Philadelphia is a diverse, nonpartisan group of individuals united in anger to end the AIDS crisis using direct action.  

Asian Americans United empowers Asian Americans in Philadelphia to exercise leadership in their communities and come together to challenge oppression.

Camden for Clean Air aims to close the largest air polluter in all of Camden County, the Covanta Camden trash incinerator, one of two trash incinerators just across the river from South Philadelphia.  

El Comité de Apoyo a los Trabajadores Agrícolas is a migrant farmworker and low-wage immigrant worker organization building power to win better working and living conditions.  

Delco Environmental Justice addresses the concentration of industrial pollution and waste disposal in the City of Chester, which disproportionately affects the health and lives of poor individuals and people of color.

Free Migration Project fights at the intersection of law and community organizing for freedom of movement for all people. They center impacted people in campaign work, and work toward productive collaboration with grassroots organizations through partnering with in their campaign work. 

Human Rights Coalition is working to dismantle the prison system by abolishing solitary confinement, shutting down toxic prisons, and fighting for the freedom of their loved ones. 

Indigenous Peoples’ Day Philly works to cultivate an active Native American/Indigenous presence in Philadelphia through cultural, educational, and community-building initiatives.

Juntos combines leadership development, community organizing, and collaboration with other community-based advocacy organizations to build power in Latinx immigrant communities. 

National Domestic Workers Alliance exists to build power, recognition, and respect for nannies, house cleaners, caregivers, and other domestic workers in the Philadelphia region.

National Institute for Healthy Humans and Healthy Communities is an environmental justice advocacy organization that aims to confront environmental racism and advocate for poor communities disproportionately affected by polluting facilities.

The Native American House Alliance‘s mission is to serve as a voice on Native American issues and promote an accurate understanding of Native American culture and contributions to American history. 

Natives in Philly is an Indigenous women & two-spirit-led organization that focuses on fostering internal community and skill-building among Indigenous individuals, leaders, and organizations in “Philadelphia”.

New Sanctuary Movement is an immigrant-led organization that actively challenges the flawed immigration system, campaigns for policy changes, and engages in local, state, and federal advocacy to create safer and fairer communities for immigrants to thrive.

The Philadelphia Bail Fund combats mass incarceration by working to end cash bail in Philadelphia. They pay bail for individuals in need, preventing the harms of wealth-based detention.

Philadelphia Coalition for Affordable Communities is a coalition of community, disability, faith, labor, urban agriculture, and community arts organizations that have joined together to pass laws that address the City’s housing and food affordability crises.

Philadelphia Teamsters for a Democratic Union is a worker-led, grassroots movement that organizes economic justice campaigns, develops grassroots leaders, and promotes community-labor alliances to improve workers’ rights.

Philly Thrive works to build a world where we can all breathe and thrive. For them, that means creating a world free of toxic air pollution and polluting oil refineries, particularly in South Philly neighborhoods.

UrbEd is a student-led organization that advocates for a stronger urban education system. They work to improve education with a focus on issues that impact economically disadvantaged students and students of color.

VietLead  is a grassroots community organization in Philadelphia and South Jersey that is creating a vision and strategy for community self-determination, social justice, and cultural resilience.

Why Not Prosper responds to the needs of women in the prison system and supports women’s re-entry journey from prison to their community. This grant will support Why Not Prosper’s Women’s Advocacy program in its fight for quick access to Medicaid and doctor’s appointments for returning women.

Woori Center’s mission is to organize Korean and Asian Americans to achieve social, racial, and economic justice, particularly in areas like immigration reform and access to healthcare.

Gender Justice Organizing Fund

The Gender Justice Organizing Fund is an annual fund at Bread & Roses that moved $130,000 to grassroots groups organizing to mobilize women, girls, transgender, and gender-nonconforming people to make change.

Ark of Safety LGBTQ+ Safe Haven is a faith-based initiative providing inclusive and gender-affirming emergency housing for LGBTQIA+ people facing housing insecurity in the Philadelphia region.

Centro Integral de la Mujer Madre Tierra is a community-based grassroots net-media project formed by immigrants from Latin America. They promote gender equity for all bodies identifying as women, especially migrants whose first language is Spanish.

Coalition for Restaurant Safety & Health is a group of hospitality & food service workers, survivors, and allies who organize to achieve safer, harassment-free work cultures within their communities.

Girls Justice League is a girls rights organization dedicated to taking action for social, educational, and economic justice for girls, young women, and those who identify as female in the Philadelphia region.. 

National Domestic Workers Alliance exists to build power, recognition, and respect for nannies, house cleaners, caregivers, and other domestic workers in the Philadelphia region.

Philadelphia Aging People in Prison Human Rights Campaign advocates for the release of aging women and men from prison.

Project SAFE is a mutual aid harm reduction organization for women, queer, and trans people involved in the street economies of Philadelphia. Their long-term vision focuses on preventing violence in multiple forms.

Womxn Beyond Borders mission is to prevent and eliminate domestic violence among womxn by elevating, educating, and empowering them with crisis interventions, compassion, and humanitarian resources.

The Womanist Working Collective is a radical grassroots social action and support collective for Black folx of marginalized gender experience, specifically women (trans* and cis), femmes, and other gender expansive folx.

The Young Artist Program is dedicated to creating a safe and nurturing space that centers Black and brown youth who identify as LGBTQ+ in the Philadelphia region.

Why Not Prosper advocates for the just treatment of incarcerated women and promotes activities that support these vulnerable women upon their released from prison.

Women’s Community Revitalization Project is committed to social and economic equity for low-income women and their families.

Future Fund

The Future Fund is a core fund at Bread & Roses that moved $50,000 to organizations working on emerging issues or developing new approaches to social justice activism.

Black and Latinx Community Control advocate for the City of Philadelphia to address systemic inequities in the continuum of HIV services, such as bias in funding allocations, lack of infrastructure development, and the absence of critical services in Black and Brown neighborhoods.

cinéSPEAK is an organization centered around the film industry, aiming to lower barriers for emerging filmmakers and cultural critics who have historically been excluded.

Disability Pride PA is dedicated to promoting visibility and cultivating pride within the disabled community in Pennsylvania. DPPA aims to create inclusive spaces and engaging programming for disabled individuals and their allies.

Kiths Integrated and Targeted Human Services’ mission is to create opportunities for self-sufficiency within immigrant and refugee communities. They provide shared resources, advocate for social justice, and support the growth and independence of immigrants and refugees.

Movement of Immigrant Leaders in Pennsylvania is a network of families fighting for the dignity and rights of every Pennsylvanian, regardless of our immigration status. They educate, organize and cultivate participation for social, political and economic changes to ensure that human needs become human rights.

Philadelphia Red Umbrella Alliance is a sex worker collective dedicated to ending stigma and violence towards sex workers through labor organizing, advocacy, and campaigning to end diversion programs and full decriminalization of sex work.

Philly Black Worker Project believes that collective action can bring change to low road industries and shift power from employers to Black workers. They contribute to the existing worker organizing landscape by focusing on non-traditional, Black workers in the “temp” industry.

The Future is Us Collective provides alternatives to academic institutions and exclusive gallery spaces, while combatting social issues such as gun violence and substance abuse by offering healing and fun creative practices for youth.

Unique Dreams aims to empower and strengthen youth and families by creating a culture where impoverished community voices are heard through initiatives that restore power, accessibility, and fairness across lines of race and class.

Urban Tree Connection is focused on building a neighborhood-rooted food and land system in West Philadelphia through community leadership development and land-based strategies.

Phoebus Criminal Justice Initiative

The Phoebus Criminal Justice Initiative is a core fund at Bread & Roses that moved $72,000 to groups organizing to address the root causes of the crises within the criminal legal system. The money for these grants comes from a partnership with the Phoebus Fund family foundation.

Amistad Law Project organizes and litigates for the human rights of incarcerated people and their families and believes in building intersectional movements against systemic oppression.

Coalition to Abolish Death by Incarceration seeks to end life without parole sentences in Pennsylvania by centering people who have been directly impacted by crime and long-term incarceration.

DayOneNotDayTwo is an intergenerational social justice movement with a mission to heal through creative expression and build power through narrative.

The Elevation Project’s mission is to meet the needs of at-risk and formerly incarcerated individuals by providing holistic services in a safe and supportive environment to empower fresh starts and open new pathways.

Healing Communities PA elevates and empowers people of faith directly impacted by the criminal justice system and their allies to transform the justice system.

The Human Rights Coalition seeks to dismantle and abolish the prison system and replace it with a series of systems focused on healing instead of punishing.

Movement of Immigrant Leaders in Pennsylvania is a network of families across PA fighting for the dignity and rights of every person.

Pardon Project Steering Committee‘s mission is to end the discrimination against people who have lived experience in the criminal justice system.

Philadelphia Aging People in Prison Human Rights Campaign advocates for the release of aging women and men from prison.

The Media Justice Fund is a special fund at Bread & Roses that moved $200,000 to grassroots groups using community organizing to create change in media policies or practices.

Amistad Law Project organizes and litigates for the human rights of incarcerated people and their families and believes in building intersectional movements against systemic oppression.

Arab American Community Development Corporation‘s mission is to preserve the Arabic culture and language, improve access for economic development and empower the community to work against racial, ethnic, and religious discrimination.

Big Picture Alliance’s mission is to empower Philadelphia youth to define their own narrative through filmmaking & digital media arts.

Dignity Act Now Collective works to advocate for prison-impacted individuals while uplifting their experiences through political education and artivism (art activism).

Frontline Dads is a social justice advocacy organization with a mission to empower marginalized communities directly impacted by poverty, crime, violence, unemployment, addiction, racism and mass incarceration.

Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign‘s mission is to unite the poor across color lines as the leadership base for a broad movement to abolish poverty and build a cooperative society that ensures economic, social, and cultural rights.

Prison Health News works to abolish prisons; end HIV, hepatitis C, COVID-19, and other diseases fueled by systemic injustice; and build a base of healthcare organizers among people in prison.

Prison Radio’s mission is to push for the inclusion of the voices of incarcerated people in the public debate on unjust police and prosecutorial practices which result in mass incarceration, racism, and gender discrimination.

Reuniting Family Bail Fund mission is to be the premier trusted resource for advocacy, social change, and reform of the criminal legal system in Montgomery County PA.

The Village of Arts and Humanities‘ mission is to support artists and Black community residents to imagine, design, and build a more just and equitable society. They are convening the Care, Not Control Coalition a coalition of young people and youth advocates working to end youth incarceration.

VietLead organizes in Philadelphia and South Jersey to develop culturally centered & community-driven solutions to improve health, increase sovereignty, and develop Vietnamese leadership in solidarity with other working class communities of color.
