Rita Urwitz, a union leader at AFSCME DC 47, LGBT activist, and youth advocate, passed away in January. Rita was instrumental in the passage of Philadelphia’s 1996 domestic partner law.

David Wycoff, public defender, passed away in January. David fought tirelessly on behalf of prisoners on death row. He was recently part of the legal team defending Terrance Williams, whose death sentence was stayed in October.

Frances Lax, civic leader, passed away in January at age 90. Frances was president of the New Jersey League of Women Voters and an early supporter of Planned Parenthood in Camden, N.J. Her son, who passed in 1996, founded the Jonathan Lax
