Join us for a safe and fun bike ride to raise money for movement building in Philadelphia on Saturday, September 16, 2017! The Change Ride is organized by board member Jill Feldstein and volunteer Jeni Mattingly. All proceeds support Bread & Roses Community Fund.
About the ride: We will travel approximately 10 miles through South Philly, Center City, and North Philly to visit organizations working for racial and economic justice in Philadelphia: New Sanctuary Movement, Put People First PA, Youth United for Change and the Reentry Think Tank. Trained volunteers will lead the group, ensuring safe riding and that no participants are left behind.
No Bike? No Problem! Indego, Philadelphia’s bike share program, is offering a discount code for participants that will be emailed after riders complete the registration. If the Indego program doesn’t work for you, email us directly & we’ll help connect you with two wheels for the ride.
About the day: We will begin with a complimentary breakfast, donated by Rowhouse Grocery, at their new location in South Philadelphia (1713 McKean Street) at 8:30am. If you are coming on public transportation, take the Broad Street Line to either Tasker-Morris or Snyder Station or the 2 Bus to 17th & McKean. We will have waivers for you to sign while you check in, mingle and enjoy breakfast. From Rowhouse Grocery, we will hop on our bicycles to start the ride. Along the way, we’ll meet representatives from each organization who will tell us about their history and the focus of their current work. We’ll end our ride around 1:00pm at the Village of Arts and Humanities (2544 Germantown Ave) where we’ll enjoy a fantastic lunch courtesty of our friends at Rowhouse Grocery. After lunch, we will lead riders to the nearest stop on the Broad Street Line and back into Center City.
About your swag: To thank you for helping make the Change Ride a success, you will receive a thank you gift bag, which includes an overview of the route, riding safety tips, and a special gift from one of our wonderful sponsors, Fairmount Bicycles. If you register by August 20th, you will also receive a limited edition Change Ride t-shirt. You’ll select your size when you register for the ride. Click here to see a mock-up of the design. The Unisex version refers to the shirt at the top of the mock-up and Women’s is pictured at the bottom. Keep in mind the shirts run small, especially the Women’s cut.
About the work your fundraising will support: The money you raise will support the meaningful work of Bread & Roses Community Fund. Bread & Roses organizes donors to give at all levels to support community-based groups in building movements for racial equity and economic opportunity. For 40 years Bread & Roses has inspired people to take collective action and create real change in their communities, the Philadelphia region, and beyond. They raise money through donations of all sizes and make grants using a democratic, community-led decision-making process. Bread & Roses grants go to local groups working for good schools, fewer prisons, better jobs, a safe environment, quality health care, and more. Last year, the Change Ride raised $13,697 to support Bread & Roses and we’d love to raise even more money this year.
To support the critical work of Bread & Roses, we are suggesting that Individuals set a fundraising goal of $125 and Teams raise $400. However, we would be thrilled if you set your sights higher and raised more to help fight for social justice in Philadelphia!
We will also offer fundraising support to those who want to build their skills to ask for donations from their community. Keep your eyes peeled for periodic emails with fundraising tips and, in the meantime, don’t hesitate to email us (email@example.com) if you want additional advice or assistance.
